Sigma Sports is to open a dedicated e-bike store in Surrey. The retailer has made the move after electric bikes went from accounting for one in twenty of its bike sales in 2020 to one in ten last year.
First established in 1992, Sigma Sports has cycling stores in Hampton Wick and Oakham, but it is perhaps best known as one of the major players online.
The Bicycle Association last year forecast that e-bike sales would nearly triple by 2023 and Sigma Sports is now set to open an electric store on Thames Street in the Old Market Square in Kingston upon Thames.
The new outlet – which will open its doors on Wednesday March 30 – will stock e-bikes from Specialized, Trek, Orbea, Bianchi and Brompton, among others, with leisure, commuter, mountain, gravel and road options available.
There’ll also be a reserve and collect service from the Sigma Sports website, as well as clothing and accessories over two floors of retail space.
“What better way to build upon our 30-year heritage than by looking forwards and actively embracing the future of cycling and continuing to support the local community,” said CEO Ian Whittingham.
“We’re excited to showcase an amazing selection of electric bikes and accessories from our leading brands. With knowledgeable staff and a purpose-built retail space, we can't wait to help push the countless benefits they offer to more people.”
The new shop will be hiring up to 15 members of staff. You can view the current vacancies here.
