If you like the idea of e-cargo but want the extra maneuverability of a standard bike when you're not carrying luggage, then the Convercycle, recently brought to life with a successful crowdfunding campaign, could be the thing for you.
Meet the Cybic E-Legend, the world's first Amazon Alexa-enabled bike
As you'll see in the video below, the rear wheel lifts out of its basket (in a similar way a Brompton wheel flips out) and extends to create plenty of cargo space to harbour groceries, sports equipments or a child's seat. Convercycle say in its folded position the bike is compact enough to take inside or in an elevator, essentially making it a 2-in-1. It has a 5-speed Shimano Nexus hub gearing system, 28" wheels and the battery is removeable.
Different saddle rails can be used to alter the size of the bike, and two frame sizes plus various sizes of stem are offered when purchasing to get the correct fit. Convercycle say ditching the car is more difficult if you often need to transport big items, and common cargo bikes are often tricky to handle due to their size; Convercycle is an attempt to solve that problem, and the e-version makes transporting bulky and heavy items even more convenient.
Convercycle have already reaching their original 100,000 euro crowdfunding target, and currently the e-bike version is 1399 euros with shipping included on the Indiegogo campaign, with all the orders on various Kickstarter earlybird offers and discounts already taken.
