Micromobility company Voi is offering a free ride as an incentive to those who take part in its new, free, online traffic school, RideSafe Academy, which covers both e-scooters and e-bikes.
Voi says the RideSafe Academy provides a series of online micro courses that teach essential knowledge and helpful tips on local e-scooter and e-bike traffic rules and rider safety, “in a fun and engaging way”. It is available to anyone, whether or not they are a Voi rider.
RideSafe Academy is designed to be accessible and engaging for riders of all levels of experience. The courses cover a range of topics related to e-scooter and e-bike safety, local traffic rules, and responsible parking practices.
The Swedish company also offered free rides and a helmet to those who took part in a free safe riding skills session in Southampton last month, where participants learnt more about Voi e-scooters and developed their riding skills.
E-scooters can currently only be ridden on public roads in the UK when rented as part of official trials. In 2022, the government announced that the vehicles would be made legal through the creation of a low-speed, zero-emission vehicle category but this has now been delayed several times.
Earlier this year, the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety said the likelihood of legislating for private e-scooters in 2024 was “zero”.

James Bolton, Voi general manager UK, said: “By offering a free and accessible platform to learn about e-scooter and e-bike safety and traffic rules, we are empowering our riders to make safer choices and contribute to safer streets for everyone.
“With RideSafe Academy, we aim to set a new standard for the micromobility industry, emphasising the importance of education in creating a more responsible and sustainable urban future.
“I hope it gives even more people the confidence to use an e-scooter or e-bike as a great way to get around without causing congestion or pollution.”
