Halfords launch e-bike for teenagers
All three models are based around the same geometry as the equivalent regular bikes in Boardman's range, with the electrical assistance added courtesy of Fazua. Providing the permitted 250 watts of power with various assist levels and weighing just 4.6kg for the whole system, Fazua's Evation was chosen for its low weight, simple head unit and the option to take it off and replace with a cover to ride a regular bike without assistance.
The HYB 8.9e (£2,200) is described as a "fast and practical flat-bar electric hybrid", designed for commuting in the city, leisure riding and brief off-road adventures. Comfortable geometry is balanced with nimble handling, and there's a 10 speed Shimano Deore drivetrain and 44t FSA chainring with 11-42 cassette to tackle the steepest inclines. There are mudguards and rack mounts front and rear, hydraulic disc brakes and tough 35mm Schwalbe Citizen tyres to complete the package. It's also available in men's or women's versions.
The ADV 8.9e is made for on or off-road adventures, with a slacker head angle, longer top tube and shorter stem compared to Boardman's road bikes. It features a 1x Sram Apex groupset with a 40t chainring and 11-42 cassette, hydraulic disc braking and 38mm Schwalbe G-One Speed tyres. You also get mudguard and rack mounts for luggage carrying duties.
