Fans of amphibious trikes you can also sleep in, rejoice! The BeTriton is finally here! We first reported on what was at the time called the Z-Triton in 2020 and against all odds it appears to have made it into production.
To quickly recap the premise for those who don’t remember and who also can’t be bothered clicking the link in the previous paragraph, the BeTriton is a two-person electric trike with integrated solar panels that is also an electric boat, and which boasts bed space for two.
Creator Aigars Lauzis once cycled from London to Tokyo, but said he found his touring bike a limited vehicle.
“I couldn’t cross water, had very limited room for luggage and I trust you know how setting up a stuffy tent again and again can be tiresome,” he said.
So he came up with this idea of combining a tricycle, a small boat and a camper van and created the the BeTriton, or the Z-Triton 2.0 as it sometimes seems to be known.
In trike mode there's a 36-inch front wheel with two 20-inch wheels at the rear. Then in boat mode, the back becomes the front, the two smaller wheels folding up sideways and you attach inflatable stabilisers to them. You then drop the motor from what is now the cabin.
You can get a better sense of what happens from about halfway through the video below.
For some reason the BeTriton is also fitted with a pot plant holster on the roof. Why not?
Priced at 14,500 euros, they’re now taking orders for delivery in 2023. It’ll also be available in kit form for 4,500 euros with deliveries later that year.
Intriguingly, the website lists a rental option too – 60 euros a day or 120 for an overnight trip.
