Acer has unveiled the Predator Extreme e-scooter at the Taipei Cycle Show 2023, which it says is designed to, “carry the power and performance of an off-road motorbike”.
The e-scooter, developed by the Acer Gadget division, features a dual suspension system and rear spring shock absorber, 700W peak power output and up to 29Nm of torque. They reckon it's good for up to 16% inclines.
Riders can switch between 6km/h, 15km/h, and 25km/h speed modes, and Acer explicitly says that the scooter’s build will allow for stunts such as wheelies and jumps.
The Predator Extreme e-scooter has a replaceable 270Wh lithium-ion battery that can be charged in 3.5 hours and supposedly offers up to 22km range with one charge.
The computer manufacturer last year launched two e-scooter models - the ES Series 3 and ES Series 5. Weighing 18.5kg, the ES Series 5 has a 350W motor and a 15Ah lithium-ion battery that fully charges in eight hours. It has three speed modes: Eco mode (0-6kph), Standard mode (0-10kph) and Sports mode (0-20 or 25kph).
Weighing 16kg, the ES Series 3 has a 250W motr and a 7.8Ah lithium-ion battery with the same speed modes as the ES Series 5.
In the UK, e-scooters can currently only be ridden when rented as part of official trials, where they have a maximum speed of 15.5mph (25km/h). It was announced last year that privately-owned e-scooters would be legalised in the UK through the creation of a new low-speed, zero-emission vehicle category - however the Transport Bill that will legalise them has been pushed back until late this year at the earliest.
Acer also recently entered the e-bike market with the launch of the AI-driven ebii. The bike’s AI-powered ebiiAssist function adapts to the rider’s pedalling power, riding conditions, and preferred level of assistance. Acer says it will adapt over time for a personalised experience.
The Taipei Cycle Show, which took place from March 22nd-25th, also saw the Taiwanese firm hold a live demonstration of the eKinekt BD 3, “the first-ever bike desk to use kinetic energy to power an entire machine”.
Allen Jong, Acer Gadget president, said: "As part of Acer's push towards smart, eco-friendly lifestyles, the Predator Extreme e-scooter and eKinekt BD 3 (bike desk) bring new levels of fun and mobility to our lineup of sustainable technology.
"This year, we are looking to continue expanding the product lineup for off-road electric scooters to create a comprehensive range of mobility solutions to better serve larger and more diverse user groups."
