Swedish micro-mobility firm Voi is introducing an updated version of its e-scooter. The Voiager 5 features a series of tech improvements, an increased use of recycled materials and a more modular design that will allow for quicker and easier repairs.
A Voi spokesperson said the new model was being geared towards the ‘everyday’ rider as commuters now represent Voi’s largest rider group in the UK.
It is being rolled out in three UK cities, Liverpool, Bristol and Bath, where new users are being offered 15 minutes of free riding. (Just download the app, input a valid payment method and add 'V5UK' to the in-app wallet. The offer expires on Thursday June 30.)

Voi says the V5 is its “most circular vehicle yet” – which honestly just makes us think of a space hopper.
What they mean is that over 30 per cent of it is now made of recycled materials. They also say that nearly 90 per cent of its components have been redesigned to improve durability and repairability.
There are functional changes too, including what's billed in the press release as "magic wheels". This appears to boil down to a larger front wheel, increased tread depth and greater shock absorption. These combine with a height increase between the road and rider, which prevents scraping of the foot deck, to ensure a smoother and safer ride.
The upgraded brakes are said to be more durable and robust with reinforced cables that are now easier for mechanics to access and Voi have also added auto-cancelling indicators so that the rider doesn’t have to look down to deactivate them.
