We like a crowdfunding success story at eBikeTips, and it’s quite possible that we’ve stumbled across the biggest one related to an e-bike product.
The Mate X, a folding e-bike designed in Denmark, has earned a whopping $12,817,234 US dollars on popular crowdfunding site Indiegogo. That’s a staggering 25,160% of the original target, according to the website, with 24,836 backers.
We suspect that brother and sister team Christian Adel Michael and Julie Kronstrøm might want to step up their production plans to meet the obvious demand; the MATE X is set to be available in three flavours – a standard 250 version, plus a 250+ model that have 250 watts of power, limited to 25km/h, and a pretty wild 750w version limited to 32km/h, which technically makes it a speed pedelec and subject to additional restrictions in British law.
You can still check out the fundraising campaign over on Indiegogo (although unfortunately you’re out of luck if you want one at the discounted rate), while we’ll certainly be keeping our eyes on this brand in the future.
