French brand Coleen have blended some serious vintage cool into their new signature e-bike model, which is based on the unorthodox 1941 bike created by the legendary metal worker Jean Prouvé.
It's debatable whether Coleen is missing the downtube or a top tube, as the main beam of the T-shaped design kind of does the job of both. Nevertheless the Coleen take on the design has a full carbon frame, made in their Biarritz workshop which means 85% of the bike is made in the South of France. 75 specially made components make up the bike in total. Weighing an impressive 19kg, it's unisex and made for city dwellers, designed to "reinvent the pleasure of urban travel" according to Coleen.
There's some clever stuff going on inside the carbon fibre tubing, with 100km of assisted range and 48V tension. Coleen's new motor generation is designed to be reactive and smooth, with progressive regenerative braking that improves battery range. The rear hub motor weighs just 2.3kg. A belt drive for little to no maintenance and a luxurious leather saddle and handlebar grips complete the classy package.
There are also connected features via the Coleen app, including anti-theft GPS that gives you a notification if abnormal activity is suspected, general GPS tracking and geolocalisation to find your bike at any time, if you're a very forgetful type.
All this ingenuity and master craftsmanship doesn't come cheap of course, with Coleen bikes starting at 5,990 euros. You can pre-order one now with a 2,000 euro down-payment for a July delivery, check out the Coleen website for more info.
