Bosch has developed a new lightweight mid-motor for electric mountain bike racing. The Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition weighs 2.75kg and will contribute up to 400 per cent of the rider’s power.
Released in 2014, Bosch’s Performance Line CX was the first e-bike motor specifically designed for electric mountain bikes.
The latest incarnation takes things further with a new ‘race mode’ through which riders can reach maximum support quicker.
They’ve tweaked Extended Boost too. This feature of eMTB mode - which gives riders a short stab of power to get over obstacles such as rocks, roots or steps - has been extended a little. (So is it now Extended Extended Boost? Extra Extended Boost? Hyper-Extended?)
There’s also a Hill Hold function that's supposed to prevent unintentional roll-back on steep climbs.
That 2.75kg weight makes the Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition system the lightest in Bosch’s range bringing obvious benefits for handling on trails and descents. It still packs a punch though, offering up to 85Nm of torque. Bosch say it’ll provide ‘explosive’ support even at cadences over 120 rpm.
