Cowboy is to launch the fourth generation of its urban e-bike. Winner of Red Dot Best of the Best 2021 product design award, the Cowboy 4 features a new design and a powertrain the brand says offers 50% more torque. For the first time, the bike will also be available with a step-through frame.
“The Cowboy 4 completely redefines life in and around cities,” said Cowboy co-founder Adrien Roose, who believes the additional frame will help reach a much larger proportion of the market.
“Our mission is to help city dwellers move in a faster, safer and more enjoyable way than any other mode of urban transportation,” he added. “Be it wandering through the city or staying fit, it’s a reconnection with your senses and a rediscovery of the simple thrill of riding a bike.”
The bike has a 250W rear hub motor offering 45Nm of torque and a removable 360Wh battery.
The new design features 200 custom-made parts, with exceptions being the Selle Royal saddle and the Gates carbon belt.
There’s a new app too. The one released with the Cowboy 3 featured auto-unlock, theft detection, crash detection and 'air quality' and an air quality navigation feature has been added since then.
A new home screen shows en route weather and air quality information, predictive battery range and a summary of previous trips.
Another striking feature is a built-in Quad Lock mount to hold the rider’s smartphone.
“We wanted to give anyone’s phone and the new Cowboy app centre stage, enabling our riders to have a companion along for the ride, offering easy and instant access to information such as remaining battery range, air quality on route and a wide range of live fitness stats,” said co-founder Tanguy Goretti.
“Thanks to our proprietary cockpit, it is now easy to quickly and securely dock your phone and give it a battery charge as you ride.”
The C4 and C4 ST are available through the Cowboy website, priced at £2,290, with deliveries due to start in September 2021.
